WHY LEADERS OF COLOR?

While women and people of color leaders have been instrumental to the development of the movement to end gender-based violence, professionals of color are frequently met with barriers to professional growth and achievement in executive leadership positions. Executives of color have few people they can look to for informal or formal mentoring, yet those who have experienced mentorship have seen it as an invaluable way to support woc in leadership and executive positions.

This underrepresentation of leaders of color in the communities we serve, impedes our ability to provide culturally specific services and education, and ultimately, the ability to grow thriving, violence free communities. When people of color are provided access to leadership development, mentorship, and a community to learn with and from, the holistic needs of communities of color become central to our movement.
