Description

This two-part web conference series will provide sexual assault advocates with a foundation for being able to provide appropriate support and advocacy to sexual assault survivors with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). The first session in this series will provide information on the different types of intellectual and developmental disabilities, the landscape of services available to people with I/DD in California, the basics of conservatorship and mandated reporting, and how ableism intersects with sexual violence. Join VALOR and the Arc of California to build capacity for serving survivors with I/DD. 



Learning Objectives

  • Participants will be able to identify and describe intellectual and developmental disability and services in the state of California
  • Participants will be able to explain the basics of mandated reporting and conservatorship in California
  • Participants will be able to summarize the importance of language & terminology
  • Participants will be able to describe ableism and its impact on sexual assault
